The Japan Atomic Power Company (JAPC) was established in 1957. Ever since, JAPC has been as a pioneer in the field, continuously contributing to the development of nuclear power generation through constructing and operating the Tokai Power Station, the first commercial nuclear power plant in Japan, as well as the Tokai No. 2 Power Station and Tsuruga Power Station Units 1 and 2.

In recent years, there has been a series of major disasters caused by abnormalweather, and there is a heightened sense of crisis regarding global warming. Inaddition, there is a renewed awareness regarding the importance of ensuring stable energy supplies due to tight power supply and demand, soaring energy prices, and other factors.

In Japan, under the fundamental policy for achieving a green transformation, nuclear power will contribute to energy security along with renewable energy and will be fully utilized as an energy source with high decarbonization effects. This policy includes achieving a nuclear power ratio of 20% to 22% within the power source mix in 2030, measures to develop and construct innovative next-generation nuclear reactors, and prolongation of the operation of existing nuclear power plants.

In light of these changes in circumstances and with the mindset of opening up the future ourselves, we are making every effort regarding measures to enhance the safety at the Tokai No. 2 Power Station, respond to the safety screenings of the Tsuruga Power Station Units 2, carry out the specific measures for the Tsuruga Power Station Units 3 and 4, and conduct decommissioning of the Tokai Power Station and the Tsuruga Power Station Unit 1. We will also proactively tackle the challenges of solving the various issues and innovating in relation to nuclear power.
